Updating the front door had a huge impact on the house’s curb appeal, especially since the original door had bizarre proportions. The lower panels were too tall ( I prefer lower panels nice and low) and the upper lass panels were far too narrow. And that dusty green colour was beyond blah. So…I bought a set of standard glass french doors with a paneled bottom but customized them with moulding. I painted them Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball in a satin finish and then decked them out with new, but vintage, brass hardware. I kept the mailbox but had it cleaned up at The Door Store.
The new larger paned glass doors make an even bigger difference from inside. Those old skinny windows were jail-like! Just that little bit of extra glass brings so much more light into the space. I love the eclectic pairing of the new The tri-coloured hex floor tiles (bye bye tumbled slate) with the blue Thibault grasscloth (remnant from another reno). The painted foyer door was badly damaged during the reno work but we were able to salvage it by stripping it down to its original wood, whic I kind of love!
